Raw Artists..?

So I made a post some months back about my experience doing a couple RAW Artist shows. I mentioned that I did have a relatively good experience at the venues, and while that is still true, I must say I am late to the party because I had only recently heard info about how the organization is pretty much “shady” or, “a scam”.

This article gives good info, even if it gets a little snobbish at the end. I think this was the first article I stumbled across when I actually did start researching the shady side of this company.

When I read the negative reviews and assessment of RAW now, it all makes sense. The practice of having to sell tickets or else pay for the showcase out of pocket, is pretty scummy. I remember not being able to sell all the tickets, and I don’t remember how I managed paying the difference, but wouldn’t be surprised it was by use of credit card.. and even though me and my mom had a great time all things considered, it didn’t really benefit us in anyway as artists. It didn’t make or break anything. Too noisy, too crowded, overloaded so many different types of artists that it has no focus. We had a huge pain just parking at the Minneapolis venue, and setting up, and tearing down. And for what? It all kind of petered out, we didn’t get hardly any of the “exposure” we were promised. It wasn’t worth it. While I’m still glad I had the life experience, and the chance to know what it is like to put myself out there, I won’t be doing another RAW showcase again. Same goes for my mom. Waste of time, and money. But oh well, live and learn as they say 🙂 We are enjoying many local showcases, that are either free, or around 50 bucks to join; and they are great. Definitely a plus!
